Children's Jotunheimen

It is important that the youngest members of the family have a good time on holiday. In Jotunheimen we want everyone to have the opportunity to experience something new and exciting. We would like everyone – arge and small – to return home with good memories of their holiday. Here in Jotunheimen, children can join in most of the activities at their own level.

Climbing
Climbing is steadily more popular. Here in Jotunheimen there are many opportunities for climbing – also for children. Lomseggen Klatretårn climbing tower in the centre of Lom is a new and exciting facility. Everyone – irrespective of age – can climb here. In BrimiSkogen klatrepark forest climbing park you can be Tarzan for a day – who wouldn’t love that?

Riding
Horses are always popular with children! There are god opportunities here to experience horses at close quarters. One hour, whole or half-day tours from Jotunheimen Hestesenter.

Bathing
It’s possible to swim in rivers and mountain lakes. The bathing pool at Smedsmo Camping in Vågå is also a good place to swim in the sumer. If the weather isn’t up to being outdoors, the swimming pool at Fossberg Hotell is a good alternative.

Fishing
It is important to allow children to experience nature and to be active without being constrained by organised activities. Fishing can be relaxation, family fun or a way of getting food – you decide. Catching fish is an achievement – for big and small! Here in Jotunheimen (Vågå, Lom and Skjåk) there are many mountain lakes and rivers that are an eldorado for fishermen.

Culture
In Norsk Fjellmuseum - Jotunheimen Nasjonal Park Centre children and adults can have their first meeting with the mountains and mountain culture through sound, pictures and film. They can experience the history of the mountains, see the animals that live in Jotunheimen and, not least, see the two fine mammoths we have in the museum! At Fossheim Steinsenter they can learn about rocks and geology. They can touch, feel and can take stones away from the free collection. The Gudbrandsdalmusea museum tells of the culture, traditions and olden days, both at the Jutulheimen bygdetun buildings in Vågå and at Lom village museum. There are many great activities for children throughout the summer.

Rafting
Family rafting is an enjoyable activity which gives children and adults a first meeting with the wild and the wet. Family rafting is a more relaxed form of rafting, particularly suited to children. Family rafting is a safe activity whilst getting a good experience of the river from the rubber boat.
