Campaigns
Most of the events in Lom and Skjåk have come about through local history, culture and traditions. For instance, the Fjording horse fair traditionally took place when villagers from Western Norway came over the mountains each spring to trade horses. The modern version of this fair is held every June. On the following pages you will find information about local events and exhibitions.
Fjordingsmartnan - horse market- took place when the horsemen came over from the fjord district to sell horses in the area.every spring. Every year in the secon half of June. Other fairs in the valley. Ståk I Skjåk and Reinsdyrdågå in Lom. Another arrangement with long traditions is Countryfestivalen in Skjåk, being arranged for more than 20 years. For lovers of accordeon and local folk dance music we recommend “Trekkspeltreffen “ in Vågå and “Vårsleppen” in Lom, “Lauvspretten” and “Grotlitreffen” in Skjåk. Foreign, mainly Irish tunes, can be enjoyed at Storøyafestivalen at Storøya Camping in Skjåk, in July. At “Sansespel” in Vågå you may experience and enjoy local cultur and food for 9 days. Arranged every second year.
