Memurubu Tourist Lodge is idyllic located under Besseggen next to Gjende. Memurubu is located between Gjendesheim and Gjendebu, with Besseggen and Bukkelægeret on each side.
For centuries, Memurubu has been a popular starting location for both humans and animals. With its beautiful and sheltered location at the mouth of the river Muru, on the middle of lake Gjende, Memurubu is the perfect basis for exploring Jotunheimen and many of our most famous mountain hikes.
Memurubu is by origin a old farm that has been in use for over 100 years, but the farming operation is retired by now. Today, Memurubu is a modern tourist lodge with good comfort, local food and renewable electricity from its own hydropower plant.
Accomodation:
We have about 150 beds divided into rooms of different sizes – many of them with private bathroom and toilet. In addition, there is also a nice campsite for those who wish to stay in a tent.
Mountain restaurant:
In the mountain restaurant, we serve breakfast and three course meals to everyone – both overnight guests and those dropping by for a tasty meal. We serve three course meals every day, offering local menus with fish, cured meats, burgers, elk and reindeer. Our goal is to always serve you tasty food in generous portions.
Hiking the Besseggen ridge:
The hike over Besseggen starts, or ends here, and the lodge is an excellent starting position for day trips to peaks of all sizes in the surrounding area. If you are travelling with young children, you can combine a few days at the lodge with tents in the Memurudalen valley.
Haute Route Jotunheimen:
We are part of the Jotunheimen Haute Route, and you can either use us as a pit stop on a longer trip, or stay here a few days and explore peaks such as Surtningssue and Besshø – or how about hiking over Besseggen on skis?
There are no road to Memurubu, so that you can either follow the well marked path by the lake Gjende from Gjendesheim or crossing Bessegen, or take the boat; Gjendebåten.
