About

Galdhøpiggvegen is 15 km long and offers an ascent of 1300 height meters in diverse scenery which varies from dense forest to bare rock and glaciers. Bring your bike and test yourself uphill!

Galdhøpiggvegen is Northern Europe’s highest tarmac road - known as one of Europe's toughest uphill roads. The road is located in Lom municipality in Oppland, by the highest mountain in Norway; Galdhøpiggen, and invites you to a beautiful "sweat party" on the bike seat.

From the bottom to the top, you will pedal 1400 vertical metres with an average rise of 10%. On fine weather days, the views are spectacular along the entire road, starting at 550 meters above sea level at Galdesand in Bøverdalen and rise up to 1841 meters above sea level at Juvasshytta.

The highlight is the panoramic view to Nortern Europe’s highest mountains when you reach the end of the road. 

The road is open from mid May to the end of October due to the weather conditions.

A support vehicle?
After approx. 5 km by the Raubergstulen tourist hut, there is a toll road allowing card payment. (100, - / car). Along the way you will also find Galdhøpiggen High Rope Park and Storhaugen gard. From the top you can enjoy sun, slush and summer skiing at Galdhøpiggen Summer skiing center.

Road Directions

Follow road 55 Sognefjellsvegen from Lom for about 20km, take left when you reach Galdesanden and follow the signs to Juvasshytta, Raubergstulen and Galdhøpiggen sommerskisenter.

Opening Times

* The road is privately owned and operated by Juvasshytta. This is a toll road which is closed from Raubergstulen to Juvasshytta during the winter, usually from the beginning of November. The road opens when Galdhøpiggen summer ski center at Vesljuvbrean opens in May every year.
